Cabin 18

Conceived as a serene escape from city life, this island cabin sits at the water’s edge with uninterrupted views across the sound. Building upon the previous structure, GCID partnered with Kor Architects and Toth Construction to create a home that reflects an elevated coastal sensibility using shingled forms and sweeping rooflines. The family came to GCID seeking a warm, modern interior that balanced sophistication with the easy comfort of retreat living, where materials feel natural, layered, and quietly luxurious.

As the family’s needs evolved, they envisioned an addition that would expand the property without overwhelming its intimate character. The new primary suite was conceived as a distinct architectural structure, connected to the original home by a glass-encased hallway that captures the landscape from every angle. This rhythm of transparency and solidity allows the new wing to feel both private and deeply tied to the surrounding shoreline. Inside, a restrained palette of coastal neutrals, hand-finished woods, tailored upholstery, and natural textures grounds the home in a sense of timelessness.

Throughout the property, indoor and outdoor living flow seamlessly. Generous decks, lounge areas, and terraces encourage days spent at the water’s edge, while the interiors provide a calm refuge anchored in elegant craftsmanship. The result is a modern Northwest cabin that honors its coastal setting—both a place for gathering and a sanctuary for quiet moments, crafted to evolve gracefully with the family who calls it home.
